Student Feedback and Comments from their participation in the February 2009 Field School to Esperance, Western Australia.

Which aspects did you enjoy the most?

I got a great deal from the information provided by all academic and professional instructors and traditional owners and consider their participation is the core strength of the field school. Even where their views differed, the degree of cooperation and mutual support was admirable and it gave depth to the experience.

…Dave emphasizing the link between cultural heritage and natural heritage.

…The hands on practical applications of what we learned.

…The great company and the interesting locations.

...Meeting and listening to people like Dave, Drew, Shane, Joe and the traditional owners who shared their knowledge with us.

Did your experience match your expectations? If no, please provide details.

I was expecting a lot and I think these have been largely overtaken.

I will bring back in my country more professional experiences that I could imagine, first of all I was there speaking English (!) and learning how record some artefacts and use some surveying instruments.

And we met some very professional and interesting people with who we shared experiences and received some open minds for our suggestions. I really felt listened and respected by professionals and that is one of the main thing to keep going in this way.

Moreover, sharing a passion with people who have the same is… waoooooooooo!

Which aspects did you enjoy the most?

I thoroughly enjoyed working with the traditional owners from the region and people from many varied backgrounds.

Other Comments

I really enjoyed being part of this field school. I have learnt so much and have gained many skills. I benefited from working with people with different areas of interest. It was interesting to see their views and skills that helped in understanding certain matters. The archaeology teachers were great. They made everything so easy to comprehend.  I love a challenge and this field trip helped me achieve things I thought I could never do. Overall thank you to all for organising such an amazing field trip. Thank you for a wonderful time.

And finally,

You’re…all…awesome!
