Turtle Creek
Located in Jarrahdale, Western Australia where the National Trust has some considerable land holdings and is developing a heritage park, Turtle Creek commences on the eastern edge of the property and runs westward forming an aquatic feature providing natural habitat and pleasant views. In 2008 the local Environmental Community was successful in obtaining a Community Fund Grant to remove infestations of blackberry, replant using native plants species and to improve access to the waterhole that has been previously used as a swimming point for the local community. In October the group led by Melissa Matheson, Friends of Jarrahdale Heritage Park, arranged a celebration of their activities by unveiling a Turtle Creek sign which had been designed and painted by children from the area. On hand for the celebration were Don Randell, Federal Representative and Alan Briggs (Manager, Natural Heritage, National Trust of Australia (WA)).
In adding to the event Melissa was pleased to announce that the group had been successful in their recent grant application and further work was being planned to continue the improvements that had been achieved so far.
The National Trust will continue to work with the Turtle Creek community group to ensure that all works fit within the overall heritage park management plan.
