Ngalia Foundation
Appeal
A
tax-deductible appeal has been established to raise funds for the
Ngalia Foundation Appeal. If you
would like to contribute to the appeal, please download the donation
form or contact the National Trust on (08) 9321
6088.

The
Ngalia
Foundation is a partnership between the Ngalia Heritage Research
Council (Aboriginal Corporation) and the National Trust of
Australia (WA). The Ngalia Foundation provides an exciting
opportunity for Indigenous Australians to participate in the
development of livelihoods that enhance Indigenous cultural
heritage and environmental values within the arid region of the
North Eastern Goldfields, in outback Western
Australia.
The
Foundation facilitates the purchase or transfer of properties to be
managed by Indigenous Australians, with the aim of rehabilitating
landscapes, conserving cultural values (such as Indigenous
medicines and food), educating the broader community about
Indigenous values and developing sustainable enterprises that will
create livelihoods for remote Aboriginal
communities.
In
partnership with the National Trust of Australia (WA), the Ngalia
Foundation Appeal aims to build on work Ngalia people are already
doing with research organisations like the Desert Knowledge
Cooperative Research Centre and Curtin University on traditional
knowledge-based enterprises. These include enhanced wild harvest of
bush foods and medecines, tourism-based cultural education, arts
and Indigenous land management principles and practice (Walkatjurra
Rangers).
The
Foundation presents an exciting opportunity for academic,
corporate, and government agencies to work together in restoring
our natural and cultural environment and invest in addressing the
social and economic marginalisation of Indigenous Australians by
developing opportunities to use Indigenous knowledge on acquired
lands for long term sustainable
livelihoods.

A word from The Ngalia Foundation Chair, Mr Kado
Muir:
"My people live in a marginalised socio-economic environment in the
North Eastern Goldfields, which is dominated by an exploitative and
ultimately unsustainable
mining industry
. We desire a future where we can care for our country in
the traditional ways and use our land sustainably to create
livelihoods based on our inherent natural, social and cultural
resources. Your donation will help us to protect our land, our
culture and create an exciting future for my
people."
