Parkwater Bushlands Management Group
The Parkwater Bushlands Management Group (PBMG) is a community group that was established to oversee the management of the bushland.
Fire Management
In view of the recent bushfires in Victoria, the National Trust of Australia (WA) would like to advise that we are working, in partnership with the developer and other stakeholders, to implement the following fire management strategies:
- Several prescribed burns have been undertaken to reduce the fuel hazard at strategic locations.
- The local Bush Fire Brigade has been briefed on the strategy in place for fuel hazard reduction.
- The Bush Fire Brigade will assist in prescribed burning if the operations are within their capacity and will respond to any fire emergency should a wild fire eventuate.
- A fire management plan was produced when the property subdivision application was lodged. This includes a recommendation that lot owners take reasonable measures to reduce the risk to their houses and property at Parkwater.
- The National Trust is developing a specific fire management plan for the bushland areas to show which areas have had fuel reduction and those areas where fuel reduction is planned. Not all fuel reduction will be prescribed burning; strategies will also include physical removal of flammable material and slashing to lower the height of understorey brush.
- A system of strategic fire hydrants has been installed and is available in times of emergency.
- A network of firebreaks has been installed and is maintained on a regular basis.
- Trail signage is currently under development and will be installed later in the year.
