Malimup Springs is a 40-hectare property, located in the D’Entrecasteaux National Park, in the Shire of Manjimup. The property provides important natural habitat to extend the surrounding D’Entrecasteaux National Park and flora surveys have identified 46 threatened, rare or endangered species and many Threatened Ecological Communities in the surrounding area.

The property was originally purchased by the BushBank revolving fund, which is administered by The National Trust of Australia (WA). The land has since been sold to the Indigenous Land Corporation and leased to the Kaitijin Mia Mia Aboriginal Foundation. The National Trust is continuing to work closely with the Kaitijin Mia Mia Foundation to conserve and interpret the conservation values of the land.

A conservation covenant has been registered on title to provide legal protection for the site’s unique values. Active management of the bushland will also help to minimise threats and ensure its conservation into the future. Indigenous community members will be trained in management techniques so that strategies can be implemented consistently over time.

The long-term vision for the property includes the establishment of a ‘bush university’ to promote Indigenous culture and provide education and training in traditional cultural and land management practices.

Funds raised through the appeal will go towards providing training and employment development opportunities in conservation and land management.
