The inaugural Gabbie Kylie Applied Heritage Management Field School offered participants a chance to learn practical skills in archaeology and geography, while contributing to on-ground conservation outcomes. The field school ran from 19 January - 14 February 2009 and the programme included:

• Behind-the-scenes tours;
• Excavations;
• Lectures and workshops;
• Exploratory surveys; and
• A voyage on the STS Leeuwin II.
