Applied Heritage Management Field School - Heritage and Ecology of South Western Australia

The Applied Heritage Management Field School offers students or interested groups to experience the incredible cultural heritage and ecology of Western Australia'a southwest forests and coastlines.

 

 

The field school provides practical field training, cultural activities and workshops, centred on:

·       Traditional Culture and Lifeways.

·       Archaeology of Australia .

·       Human-Environment Interactions over the last 50,000 years.

·       Methods of archaeological survey, mapping, recording and excavation.

·       Ecology and geo-morphology of one of the world's biodiverity "hotspots".

·       Practical experience in heritage conservation and rehabilitation.

·       Bush survival, hiking and navigation.

 

The course runs over 15-day or 30-day sessions and includes professional instruction, all accommodations, meals, and transport to the field locations and a number of incredible places throughout the wider region.

 

Individuals, groups and institutions can develop a programme based on these core themes and areas, or participate in components of the field school.  The flexible programme is based on developing personalised training/experiences to suit all age levels and level of instruction, from general interest, to certified/supervised training, to high-level research. 

 

 

Accommodations are in cabins and chalets or camping with a full kitchen, meeting room, conference room and amenities. Group activities include workshops and practical experience in archaeology, cultural awareness, ecology, geo-morphology, land management, as well as instruction in hiking, canoeing, stone tool making, wilderness survival, and working with Traditonal Owners. 

 

Each  Field School is fully insured and administered via the National Trust of Western Australia , and delivered as part of a unique arrangement between:

In addition, the programmes are linked to existing courses from several Australian universities and includes workshops and field instruction from specialists from a variety of fields. Each programme is run under the direction and guidance of local Elders.
