From 12th-25th April 2009, the Flinders University ARCH8305 Archaeological Field Methods unit will be held in
Albany and Esperance, Western Australia. This year it is being run by staff from Flinders University, in collaboration with the Gabbie Kylie
Foundation, the National Trust of Australia (WA), South Coast NRM Inc, the Albany Heritage Reference Group Aboriginal Corporation, the
Esperance Nyungar Traditional Owner Group and the Department of Indigenous Affairs. Non-Flinders university students should talk to their
supervisors to arrange possible course credit.
The unit provides direct experience in a range of archaeological field methods, including general site recording, mapping, survey, site
location, assessment, excavation, sorting and artefact analysis. The topic may contain some lecture and/or workshop content, but will mostly be
directed towards intensive field training in small groups, in real life situations.
The field work will take place in the following locations:
- Many Peaks
- Albany Town
- Stokes National Park
- Oldfield River
